All About Me
Hi! My name is Lan-Dai Chu. I am entering my 27th year as an educator. I have taught 1st and 3rd grades before becoming the Reading Intervention Teacher working with students from Kindergarten through Fourth Grade. I am excited to say I am now in my 18th year as a Title 1 Reading Intervention Teacher at Cockrell Elementary.
I was born in Vietnam and came to America when I was 5 years old. I grew up in a great Latin community in Miami and called it my home for 25 years. I am now living in the beautiful city of Houston with my husband. We enjoy the outdoors. I have always loved books which led me to become a teacher. I feel very fortunate to be working at Cockrell since the opening of it 17 years ago.
What is LLI, you may ask?
Leveled Literacy Intervention (LLI) is a supplemental literacy intervention program that is designed to help support students to achieve grade-level competency. LLI provides explicit instruction in phonological awareness, phonics, fluency, vocabulary, reading comprehension, oral language skills, and writing. It also helps me as the Reading teacher to match students with texts of progressing difficulty and deliver systematic lessons targeted to a student's reading ability.
Since Cockrell Elementary is a Title 1 School-Wide campus, I am very grateful to be the reading intervention teacher who has been incorporating the LLI program along with the Four-Part Processing Model of Word Recognition in small group reading for the last 17 years. It has been a great joy to see the successes my students have made over the years. I am excited to be a part of another great school year 2024-2025 in Pearland ISD!
