Gr 6 TEACHER ONLY INSTRUCTIONS- W2/D3-3

Today, we will review Elements of an Informational texts such as main idea and supporting details and text structures and how they enhance our understanding of a text.

 

MINI-LESSON for WEDNESDAY:

Read "Sneaker Nation," from the February 2021 issue of Scholastic Scope Magazine. Point out organizational patterns and their purpose within the text. To practice identifying main idea, use the following template with the text.

Game: Play Blooket to review elements of non-fiction. First, you will need to create an account here Links to an external site.. Then, you will search for games using the discover tab in the upper right hand corner. Type in non-fiction terms and then choose the quiz you want and click host. Then, select the game mode. Tower of Doom is the most popular. Then click Assign HW. Change the days to 7 and then click assign now at the top. It will then give you a game code for you to display.

 

The Hot Seat – For this review game, have one student sit facing the class. Write a vocabulary word on the board behind their seat. The audience raises their hands and the “Hot Seat” student can call on three students for clues to guess the word. Change the “Hot Seat” student if they don’t get the word correct.

 

Practice:

Students will open the activity called Genre Features in Download Five Rings Unbroken.pdf

. Take a look at questions 10 and 11  from Monday’s informational passage.  These questions align with genre features to use as practice with students. Students will review the questions, identify what genre feature the question is asking about, then complete an exit ticket.

 

RESPOND: Write an answer to the SCR question. Then, model revision by removing a word or sentence that doesn't fit. Have students complete this revision on their own responses.
 
CREATE: Students are writing an ECR to this Informational Text.
