Greetings Kemosabes (Friends)!

My name is Miss Collura and I was born and raised in Texas from a family of 7. I graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2019 (Eat 'Em Up Kats!) and attended the Disney College Program in 2016. It led me down a path to wanting to help friends of all walks of life.

Thus, my journey has brought me here to my fifth year in public education as a math teacher at Dawson High School!

What is Mu Alpha Theta About?

Mu Alpha Theta, the National High School and Two-Year College Mathematics Honor Society, was formed in 1957 at the University of Oklahoma. We are dedicated to inspiring a keen interest in mathematics, developing strong scholarship in the subject, and promoting the enjoyment of mathematics in high school and two-year college students. Currently, more than 100,000 students are Mu Alpha Theta members at more than 2,420 schools in the United States and in 23 foreign countries.

We focus on spreading awareness about mathematics throughout school and the community through acts of service and events held in or outside of school. These types of requirements give great add-ons to resumes for after high school and help build students into outstanding citizens for the future.

Requirements?

The national requirements for individual membership in a local chapter are as follows. These are the minimum requirements; chapters may elect to have stricter standards but not lower ones. Students are encouraged to participate in Mu Alpha Theta club meetings and activities, even if they do not qualify as members:

  1. Members must be high school students in grades 9 through 12.
  2. Members must be registered with Mu Alpha Theta at the school at which their permanent records reside.
  3. Members must have completed the equivalent of two years of college preparatory mathematics, including algebra and/or geometry, and have completed or are enrolled in a third year of college preparatory mathematics.
  4. On the 4-point grading scale, members must have at least a 3.0 math grade point average.

If you would like to join and meet the requirements, please be on the look out for us at events or feel free to email the sponsor or talk to any of the officers listed above during Eagle Hour at school. 😎
