Hi! I'm Diana Gano, and this is my 23rd year of teaching Chemistry.  I have been with Dawson High School as a teacher and Science Department Chair since it opened. My background is in Chemical Engineering, and before I started teaching I worked as a Chemical Engineer doing Research & Development for over 10 years at Rohm and Haas Company. I'm a true science nerd and I love to do hands-on labs and tell terrible science puns.  I'm looking forward to a great school year with you!

AP CHEMISTRY

the AP Exam is May 6, 2025!

Summer Assignment
The AP Chemistry summer assignment is really a review of material that you should already be familiar with.  You should work on it a few weeks before you return to school. It is attached here: AP Chemistry Summer Assignment 24-25.docx Download AP Chemistry Summer Assignment 24-25.docx

After School Labs
AP Labs are a required part of this course.  The lab handouts are given out the week before the lab.

  • Labs are held after school, either on Monday, Tuesday, or Thursday, starting no later than 2:45.  You must pick a lab day and stick with it throughout the year. Talk to me ahead of time about any conflicts. The lab calendar (barring weather emergencies) is here: Lab Calendar 24-25.pptx Download Lab Calendar 24-25.pptx
  • Prelab write-ups are due on the day of lab.  Lab analyses are due one week after the lab day at the beginning of lab.  Guidelines on how to write up a lab are attached here: AP Lab Report Guidelines 2024-25.docx Download AP Lab Report Guidelines 2024-25.docx
  • Labs are 10% off for every day that they are late.  Write-ups can be turned in the day after lab for a 10-point early bonus.
  • You must use a carbonless lab notebook for lab write-ups (there is information in the Summer Assignment on how to get one).
