Library Checkouts & Loan Policies

  • Students should have their student ID (which serves as their library card) for checkout.
  • Students may check out up to 5 items at a time.
  • The loan period for books is 3 weeks, with 1 renewal available.  The library will not charge overdue fines this year for books.
  • The loan period for calculators is 1 week.  There are no renewals for calculators.  The libraries will charge overdue fines of $.05 per day for any calculators (and other non-book items) that are returned late, with a maximum overdue charge of $1.00 per item/instance.
  • Per PISD district library policy, parents will receive a weekly email notice that lists the books students have checked out.  Parents my opt out of the weekly checkout notice during the enrollment verification process in Skyward.
  • The libraries will not charge overdue fines for books this year, but the libraries will charge overdue fines for all other non-book items of $.05 per day, with a maximum overdue charge of $1.00 per item/instance.
  • Both libraries have a return box outside the library that students can use to return their items when the libraries are closed.
  • Students are responsible for paying the replacement cost for any lost or damaged library materials.
  • Items more than one month overdue will be entered into Skyward fees, and overdue fines will be entered into Skyward after they reach $1.00.

  • Students may visit the libraries before school, during lunch, and after school (during regular library hours).
  • Students are expected to sign in on the computer when they enter the library.
  • During class time, students must have a pass from their teacher to visit the library.
  • Scheduled classes have priority in the library.
  • Students may have drinks (with a lid) and small snacks in the library, provided that they are quietly reading or working.
  • The librarians cannot write tardy passes to excuse students who are late to class.
