A student’s grade in Mr. Sang’s class will be based on the following:

Daily Assignments:

  • This includes daily warm-ups, homework assignments, and in-class assignments.

Notebook:

  • Students will need either a spiral or composition book for this course. This notebook will be used for notes, daily assignments, vocabulary, and other studying techniques.

Quizzes:

  • Quizzes will either be on paper, Canvas, or another learning platform

Projects:

  • Projects, when assigned, will be accepted on their specified due dates. Late projects will not be accepted past their due dates per the Student Handbook.

Unit Tests:

  • Unit tests will be administered at the end of a unit. Questions on the test will directly relate to the unit’s objectives and previously covered content. Students will be given up to a week’s notice before any unit test is given. Failing tests may be redone once per test to receive full credit up to a 70 before the quiz for the next unit is administered.

Final Exams:

  • Final exams will cover objectives for the entire semester and will be counted according to the PISD policy.

Late Work Policy:

No late work past 3 days will be accepted, unless determined otherwise due to special circumstances and other means of teacher discretion. Assignments will be due at the beginning of class, and anything after will be considered late.

All assignments will be open for a week and will be closed after the week.

Any assignments turned in after the deadline will not be accepted.

Absent Work Policy: If a student is absent, they have the number of days missed to make up any missing work. For example, if a student misses one day, they have the number of days missed to make up any missed work. They are required to attend tutorials for notes and assignments. Make-up work is the responsibility of the student. If the student is absent during the class period immediately prior to the test, the student still must complete the test on the specified day. If the student is absent on the day of the test, they should arrange to take the test after school on the day they return to class.

Pearland ISD Grading Policy: Daily Grades include classroom activities, homework, quizzes, in-class writing samples, or other in-class activities. Daily grades can be divided into different sub-categories, such as participatory daily grades (in-class activities, homework, etc.) and independent daily grades (quizzes, etc.). Major Grades include long-term projects, in-class assessments, and tests.

*Grades 9 – 12: Daily grades count for 40% of a student’s average, and major grades count

for 60% of a student’s average. In all science classes, daily grades count for 10% of a

student’s average, lab work counts for 30%, and major grades count for 60% of a student’s average.

Tardy Policy: A student is considered tardy if they come to class after 15 minutes of the period starting

Honor Code:
*Grading consequences for academic dishonesty, including cheating or copying the work of another student, plagiarism (including the unauthorized use of artificial intelligence (AI) such as ChatGPT), and unauthorized communication between students during an exam.

Unacceptable Behavior: causing a disturbance (e.g. talking, horseplay, insubordination), bullying, harassment, and other negative behaviors
Consequences for Unacceptable Behavior: teacher-student conference, parent contact, write-up, and other necessary disciplinary consequences

Grading Guidelines for Secondary Campuses
Each campus should provide parents with information at the beginning of the school year about campus-specific grading policies and procedures that align with these district guidelines.

Types of Grades:

  • Daily Grades include classroom activities, homework, quizzes, in-class writing samples, and other in-class activities. Daily grades can be divided into different sub-categories, such as participatory daily grades (in-class activities, homework, etc.) and independent daily grades (quizzes, etc.).
  • Major Grades include long-term projects, in-class assessments, and tests.

Grades 9 – 12:

  • Daily grades count for 40% of a student’s average, and major grades count for 60% of a student’s average. In all science classes, daily grades count for 10% of a student’s average, lab work counts for 30%, and major grades count for 60% of a student’s average.

Additionally, types of grades within each category could be assigned different weights, but that differentiation should be consistent within a campus or within a department on that campus.

Non-numeric grades for areas such as Conduct and Work Habits are permissible if the campus administration chooses to provide those in order to help parents understand how their child is progressing within a grade level. SB 2033 requires a student’s grade to reflect their relative mastery of the TEKS for that grade level.

Grades 9 – 12: Minimum Number of Grades

Teachers are encouraged to provide a sufficient number of grades to allow multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate mastery of the TEKS.

  • Teachers are required to take a minimum of one daily grade per week beginning the first full week of school.
  • Teachers are required to take a minimum of one (1) major grade every two (2) weeks of the grading period. With a minimum of three (3) major grades per grading period. (This includes the nine-week test/assessment)
  • No single assignment should count for more than 20% of a student’s grade. It should be noted, however, that some major projects may be comprised of more than one assignment.

Texas House Bill 1481

The State of Texas has adopted a policy banning the use of personal communication devices during school hours. Personal Communication Devices are any electronic device capable of telecommunication or digital communication. This includes (but is not limited to):

  • Cell phones, such as a smartphone or flip phone
  • Laptop
  • Tablet
  • Smartwatch
  • Smart glasses
  • Paging device
  • Headphones/Earbuds

Exceptions include:

  • Devices provided by schools to students for instruction.
  • Devices necessary to implement an individualized education program (IEP) or Section 504.
  • Devices for a student with a documented need based on the directive from a qualified physician.
  • Devices necessary to comply with a health or safety requirement imposed by law or as a part of the district's or school's safety protocols.

All personal devices must be turned off and stored away during school hours. Violations will follow a progressive discipline process, which may include confiscation of the device, parent/guardian pick-up ONLY, detention or in-school suspension (ISS) for repeated violations, and possible loss of device privileges on campus. If a student violates the personal communication device policy, the following disciplinary action will be taken.
