Teacher Bio
My name is Mirelie Acosta, I am proud to be a Pearland Jr High East Roughneck!! I was born and raised in Vieques, Puerto Rico. I received a Bachelor's Degree in Communications from Universidad del Sagrado Corazón in Santurce, Puerto Rico, and a Masters degree in Education from Concordia University Texas. I am certified to teach Spanish 6-12. Before becoming a teacher I worked for many years as a news photographer, and later on as a News Assignment Editor/Producer for various news outlets in Houston and in the Caribbean. This is my 1st year teaching at East, before coming to East, I worked for 6 years at Pearland High School, Go Oilers!!!, Once an Oiler always an Oiler. This year would be my 18 year as as educator!!!!. I'm teaching, Spanish 1 and Exploratory Spanish. I strive to create a community of learners that nurtures growth in a positive, fun environment.
Personally, I have been married for 23 years and have 2 fantastic girls, Aida is 20 and Isabel is 18. Our 18-year-old is a Freshman at Stephen F. Austin, go Lumberjacks!!!! our oldest is a Junior at U of H, Go Coogs!!!. We love to travel, go camping and the beach. I also enjoy reading, cooking, music, relaxing at the beach, and spending time with friends and family.
