Grading Policy

This has been copied directly from the Sablatura Grading Guidelines. Any adjustments specifically for my class and Team U of H have been bolded.

A student receiving a score below 70 on a classroom assignment or test has one opportunity to make corrections to earn a grade up to 70. The student must request from his/her teacher the opportunity to make corrections or schedule the retake of the test. Students have up to three days from the time the assignment is handed back to him/her or recorded in Skyward to make corrections or retake the test. This guideline does not include long-term projects or district benchmarks.

Absent Work:
Students are expected to ask for their work that they missed while they were absent on their first day back to school. Their assignments will have the date that it is due back written either on the assignment or in Skyward. This assignment will be marked as a "No Count" 0 in Skyward until: A) the student returns the work and it is graded; or B) the student misses the deadline and the assignment is now marked as a "Missing" assignment and the 0 will count towards their grade.

Generally, the date that will be listed on the assignment will either be equal to the number of days the student was absent, or it will be after TWO tutoring days. This will depend on if the assignment requires tutoring, and will be made clear upon the assignment being given. For example:
If a student was absent on a Monday, they have until Thursday (Tuesday and Thursday tutoring) to return it.
If a student was absent on a Wednesday, they have until Tuesday (Thursday and next Tuesday tutoring) to return it.

Missing and Late Work:
Students are expected to turn in work on the day provided by the teacher. If it is not turned in, a zero will be placed in the Skyward gradebook until it is submitted to the teacher. Students will be able to correct their missed work for up to a 70 if turned in by the correction due date. There is a maximum of TEN days to turn in late work. In these cases, for every day the assignment is late, it is -10 points.

Corrections and Re-tests:
Students are able to correct any daily grade below a 70 for a maximum score of 70. Corrections are due three days after the grade is posted in Skyward, or by the date given by the teacher written on the assignment and/or in Skyward. The teacher should indicate in Skyward that the grade was earned through a re-assessment opportunity. Re-assessment will not be required for major projects in which an extended period of time has been provided to complete the assignment. However, the teacher should use milestones in the progression of the work involved for the major project to ensure that students are making reasonable progress to the completion of the assignment, which could be recorded as daily grades.

Students are no longer allowed to correct work from the first nine weeks of school. We're moving on into new units and new opportunities for higher grades!
