A/V Technology and Career & College Exploration
Welcome to Career and Technical Education (CTE) at Berry Miller Junior High. I love being a Bobcat and bringing my professional experience in TV news and Public Relations to the classroom (again)!
My passion is teaching AV Technology. I have taught AV Production at Pearland High School and was the creator of Rail Cat Network at Turner College and Career High School and served as its Executive Producer from 2013-2016. I took a two-year sabbatical to return to Public Relations, but my heart was always in the classroom. This will be my seventh year at Miller, my fourteenth year with Pearland ISD, and I'm excited to continue growing this program.
A/V Technology is also the home of Bobcat Broadcasting (B2), the bi-weekly student-produced campus news program for BMJH.
My AV Technology students this year will learn video production fundamentals and (for high school credit) the Principles of Arts, AV Technology and Communications. We will explore technology, copyright infringement, social media, basic photography, photo editing in Adobe Photoshop, learn pre-production scriptwriting, video production and post-production audio and video editing in Adobe Premiere Pro.
This is my fourth-year teaching Career and College Exploration (Investigating Careers), a semester-long elective, where I incorporate technology as my students learn about many career opportunities. We will focus on careers in STEM, Public Services, along with Business & Industry. We also learn the importance of communication in the workplace, how to apply for a job, participate in a job interview, and look extensively at personal finance. Students will also spend time learning about college admissions, financial aid, and how to prepare for the application process.
I earned my Bachelor of Science in both Mass Communication and Journalism from Eastern New Mexico University, and I am licensed by the State of Texas to teach Technology Education.
A definite high point in my teaching career was being named the 2020-2021 Teacher of the Year for Berry Miller. I will always be humbled and honored by this recognition. ♥ I have also had the honor of being named the 2015 Appreciated Teacher by Gulf Coast Educators Federal Credit Union when I was a Turner High School Rail Cat.🐾
A mom of three Bobcat alumni and all graduates of Pearland ISD high schools Classes of 2014, 2016 and 2018, I enjoy spending time with my husband and sons and going on adventures with my family and friends.
