A run-on sentence is two or more sentences incorrectly written as one sentence. Correct a run-on sentence by doing one of the following:

  • Change the independent clauses into two separate sentences with a period
  • Separate the independent clauses with a semicolon (;)
  • Separate the independent clauses with a comma and a coordinating conjunction: and, or, but.
  • Separate the independent clauses with a subordinating conjunction (because, although, etc.)
