Today we will review author's purpose and craft in informational text, and look at how author's purpose and craft questions are asked on the STAAR test.

Read "Sneaker Nation," from the February 2021 issue of Scholastic Scope Magazine. Point out text features and their purpose as a class and determine what organizational patterns are being used throughout the article. Use this graphic organizer to fill in student answers.

. Take a look at questions 9 and 17 from Monday’s informational passage.  These questions align with author's purpose and craft to use as practice with students. They will also complete an exit ticket assignment.

 

RESPOND: Write an answer to the SCR question. Then, model revision by removing a word or sentence that doesn't fit. Have students complete this revision on their own responses.
 
CREATE: Students are writing an ECR to this Informational Text.
