Syllabus/Expectations
Welcome to 8th Grade U.S. History at PJHS
I am Coach Morse, and I am pleased to welcome you to our 8th grade U.S. History class. This year, I will be your U.S. History teacher and historian. In addition to teaching, I also coach the 7th grade girls' A team in volleyball and basketball.
We are set for an engaging school year as we explore over 400 years of U.S. History together. Our curriculum will encompass various aspects and perspectives of historical content, featuring projects, debates, and other interactive activities. I am committed to fostering a collaborative classroom environment where students can engage in open discussions and work together effectively.
My goal is to support each student, both collectively and individually, to ensure success in U.S. History. I recognize that every student is unique, and I look forward to building respectful and dedicated relationships with each of you to enhance your educational experience. Together, we will navigate this exciting journey through history.

Class Time Expectations:
Students are expected to be alert, attentive, and ready to learn during class. Each day will begin with bell work, consisting of vocabulary exercises, multiple-choice questions, open-ended questions, or written assignments, lasting 5-10 minutes. Punctuality and preparedness are mandatory.
Students will engage in writing vocabulary content, completing assignments, homework, discussions, essays, readings, and quizzes/tests. Daily assessments and independent work will be integral to the learning process.
Behavior Expectations:
The education of every student is of utmost importance. Every student has the right to learn in a disruption-free environment. The following expectations are non-negotiable: follow directions, refrain from talking while I am speaking, and maintain honesty, respect, and responsibility. Staying focused and adhering to these guidelines will help students avoid disciplinary actions, which may include student conferences, parent contact, and detentions.
I look forward to a productive year and building strong relationships with each of you.
