Command Sergeant Major Hai H. Dang was born in Saigon, Vietnam, and immigrated to the United States in 1975.  He enlisted in the Army in October 1982 where he received Basic and Advanced Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, and graduated as a 13B10 Cannon Crewmember in February 1983. 

Sergeant Major Dang retired from the military in December 2014 to the city of Houston, Texas. In January 2015, CSM(r) Dang began teaching at Bellaire High School and continued to teach at Lamar High School, and subsequently at Sharpstown High School prior to moving to Pearland High School beginning of the 2022 school year.

CSM(r) Hai H. Dang's military education includes NCOES from the Primary Noncommissioned Officer Course to the United States Army Sergeants Major Course (Class #56). He has a Bachelor of Science Degree in Liberal Studies from Excelsior College and an associate degree from the University of Maryland.

Command Sergeant Major (retired) Dang's awards and decorations include the Legions of Merit, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Army Achievement Medal, Kosovo Service Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, and is also a recipient of the Order of Saint Barbara.

CSM(r) Hai H. Dang is married to the former Thuy K. Le and they have two sons: Zachery 37, and Edward 30.
