Teacher Biographical Sketch

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to Team 5-G at Rogers Middle School! I am excited about the opportunity to teach, learn, and grow with your child, and I trust that after getting a “taste” of fifth grade ELAR, he/she will be just as excited!

I am new to the Rogers Rocket family, but not new to the field of education. This is my 21^st year as an educator and I plan to make it the best yet! My certifications are as follows: English Language Arts and Reading, 4-8 (ELAR), English as a Second Language (ESL), Science of Teaching Reading (STR 4-8), and Texas Generalist (4-8). I received my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at the great Florida Agricultural and Mechanical University!

Canvas should be updated weekly with reminders of due dates, quizzes, tests, and special projects. Many of the class assignments that we have will also be posted so that parents will be in the know about lesson expectations. Students may have online assignments – as well as assignments that will be expected to be completed in class in writing. Homework will usually be given Monday-Thursday. Homework will only extend to weekends because of an extensive project.

Students are expected to read at least 20 minutes per day at home. Daily reading helps to increase stamina and increases the likelihood that students will be lifelong readers and learners. It is true that readers and leaders!

Tutoring

Tutoring is held on Monday and Wednesday of each week at 7:45. Students must have a current tutoring pass to attend. Students may attend tutoring of they did not pass a class assignment or a quiz/test, or if there is a demonstrated struggle in a particular concept that needs to be addressed. Students may not retake assignments that they have already passed.

I am the teacher sponsor of the Drama club which meets each Monday from 4:00 -4:45 PM.
