Class Information
We will use Canvas to manage our class this year. I will post our lessons, calendar, & assignments on Canvas through out the year. Periodically, I will upload unit reviews and/or problem solutions, as well as other resources in the Modules. If you need copies of any papers given in class, you can find them on the Modules tab.
Materials
You should have the following items with you every day:
- Three Ring Binder
- Spiral notebook
- Filler Paper
- Graph Paper
- Pencils
- Graphing Calculator (it is highly recommended that students have access to a graphing calculator, such as the TI Nspire CX, outside of the classroom)
Grading
Daily (Quizzes count twice as much as homework) 40%
Major (Tests, Projects) 60%
Student Work
Homework assignments will be due by 7:15 am two class days after it has been assigned. The student, when required, must show all work to receive full credit. The teacher will only accept homework turned in on time unless the student made prior arrangements with the teacher.
*The teacher may drop some daily grades at the end of each term based on teacher discretion. Excessive tardiness, unpreparedness, or failure to comply with the rules may result in no dropped grades.
Reassessed/Make-up Work
Make-up work is the responsibility of the student. The teacher will either have assignments done online or will post prior assignments on Canvas. It is the student’s responsibility to find missed assignments and attend tutorials to make up tests and quizzes. Major grade reassessments are limited to two opportunities per grading period. They must be completed within 1 week of the day that the grade is posted.
Classroom Rules:
- Show respect to all members of the class
- Eating or drinking must be done outside of the classroom
- The class will be present and on time to class with all necessary supplies
- The class will be attentive and active participants in all classroom activities
- The class will show integrity and honesty during all class assessments (see cheating/plagiarism policy below)
- There will be silence during all tests and/or quizzes.
- Students will follow all policies and rules of Dawson High School.
- To receive credit on any assignment turned in, work must be shown.
- If the teacher gives class time to work, then the class will work only on assigned class work. Work for other classes may be confiscated and not returned.
Classroom Policies:
- The teacher will allow no form of “academic dishonesty” in this class. If the student engages in such conduct, they may receive a zero for that assignment, quiz, or test. These forms include copying work from other students, knowingly giving your assignment/test to another student to plagiarize, using technology to find the answers, etc. The DHS Student Handbook provides further details on this policy.
- There will be consequences as a direct result of choosing to break the class rules. These include, but are not limited to student or parent conference, phone calls to parents/guardians, changing seats, detention, and/or office referral.
- The student should put away all electronic devices and use them in the classroom only when permission is given. If a student uses their electronic device without permission, consequences will include, but are not limited to a warning, confiscation of the device, turning the phone into the office, detention, and office referral.
- If students choose to retake a test, they must make prior arrangements with the teacher to determine which day they will complete the retest.
Thanks for your support and I look forward to a great year.
